{3 Months} Emma Update

My big girl is three months old now, can you believe it?!  I know I can't.  I read on a blog the other day about the "fourth trimester", the milestone of the first three months.  At the end your little babes is no longer a "newborn".  Patterns are emerging, they are growing and exploring, verbalizing and smiling, laughing and cooing.  That's what my Emma is doing.

She full on laughs these days.  She is ticklish, especially on her inner thigh and her neck.  But the most fun is that she will laugh at you laughing at her.  It is so cute!  She also finds her sisters completely hilarious and enjoys smiling and laughing at them too (for some reason Ava can get her laughing the most).

I forgot to tell you, but at her two-month check-up she was in the 90%+ percentile on height and weight.  Not a shocker as she was my second biggest baby.  With her size and the extra bulk of cloth diapers, she has moved up in sizes again to wear 6 month clothing.  Crazy!  But I remember her chunky-monkey sister Lily was also like that, so my only "normal" sized child so far has been Piper (who is now ahead in sizes too, so it is the cycle that never ends).

She has been sleeping through the night since about 2 1/2 months (although this week we've had a bit of a set-back, but I think she is going through a growth spurt).  Don't ask me how.  She is my only baby to do this and I have no idea how it happened, but I am oh so grateful for it.  Elliott commented to me that she is the only baby where he hasn't done a midnight feeding to give me a chance to sleep (something we would do with other babies when they were newborns).  I just haven't needed it.  As I've mentioned before she was born with a nighttime schedule, which made the transistion to four kids much easier than it could've been.  She had been going to bed around 7:30pm, maybe waking up once to snack (not always), and then back up for the day around 7:30am.  I have discovered though that if she goes to bed just a wee bit later she will almost always sleep straight through.

When she wakes up in the morning I can hear her cooing and talking to herself in her crib.  It is such a sweet sound to wake up to.  She takes naps about every 1 1/2-2 hours, sleeping for about 45 minutes.  I so wish she would sleep a bit longer during naps, but the better sleeping at night is my trade-off.

She is really becoming a little mover.  She wiggles all over and has now reached the stage where you can't leave her unattended on the couch or bed.  She will wiggle off.  She is so close to rolling over, as she gets way up on her side but can't figure out what to do with her elbow.  When I leave her on her playmat she will do a 360 degree turn during her playtime, rolling all over to face every different direction.

She has complete control over her hands these days and loves to suck on her fingers and hands.  She hasn't quite become a thumbsucker but is awful close.  She also can grab her hanging toys from the playmat, which her sisters love to switch out and dangle new toys for her.

Her temper is starting to appear a bit when you put her down when she doesn't want to be put down.  Then she will immediatley start to cry.  I call it her "Get back here and pick me up, I didn't say you could put me down!" cry.  She is still a great eater and a very happy girl. Only once in awhile does her fat lower lip appear, and even then she somehow manages to laugh and cry at the same time.  She is a joy.
