Sarah’s Birthday

This year I turned 32.  Large and pregnant is not the best way to spend your birthday, heading further into your 30’s, but I had a great day thanks to a community effort from all of my family.

My mom was awesome and volunteered to watch the girls all day so I could enjoy some child-free shopping and hit some stores in Salt Lake I had been wanting to visit (but not with little hands in tow, i.e. too many breakables).  Several were home consignment stores or antique shops, and I had a blast!   I didn’t buy anything as years of garage saling have cheapened me, but I had a great time looking.

For lunch I met up with my sister-in-law Rachel and new niece Rose for lunch at Olive Garden; I had been craving endless salad and some yummy alfredo pasta.  I am sure I could have chosen a  less suburban/chain restaurant, but man was it good!  After lunch Rachel and I hit a few shops in the area (one apparently is the place where J. Crew samples go at the end of their life; man, I wish I was a size 8, I would’ve cleared out the store) before I headed home to freshen up for the evening.

I had requested to have a birthday dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.  Steakhouses and I have an ongoing love affair and I am more than willing to drop a pretty penny for a yummy cut of beef.  I had also fallen under the influence of advertising media since Ruth’s Chris was a sponsor on a talk show I listened to on Fridays (what can I say, they got me).  So I took the opportunity to dress up and enjoy a night on the town with my man (again, no kids thanks to my mom).

I have to say that dinner was one of the best dining experiences I have had.  When I made the reservation they asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and I told them it was my birthday.  This is what we found waiting for us at our table:

So all night long, anyone who came by our table noticed the card, asked about my birthday and then wished me a happy birthday.  I have to say, it was a lovely touch.  I felt like such a princess by the end of the night.  Lovely.

Of course I had to order a ribeye (what else?) but the rest of the food was just as amazing.  From the prix-fixe menu I got a side salad to start and I also ordered a bowl of lobster bisque (one of my weaknesses from my Boston days).  It was THE.  BEST.  LOBSTER.  BISQUE.  EVER.  Real lumps of lobster in the creamiest of bases.  Oh.  My.  Word.  I am drooling as I type.  Elliott and I decided as the night went on that, although this is the place you come for steak, we would love to come again, order only appetizers and sit at the bar.

It was a great ending to a great day.  I think I will like being 32.

I'm so glad you had a good time on your bday, sis, & felt so special and had such fun with your hubby. I told you how much I loved the lobster bisque at your wedding dinner but if you say Ruth's Chris is the best, I just may have to give them a try and see how they compare. I love how you ended your post. After all, it's truly only a number. I love you!
