Green Eggs & Ham

One of the girls favorite books right now is Dr. Seuss' Green Eggs and Ham.

Recently I went to the grocery store and purchased a small ham to cut up for little girl lunches (I like to do finger food lunches in muffin tins).  When I got it home Ava and Piper were sitting at the barstool watching me cut up the ham and Piper started talking about "green eggs and ham".  Since lunchtime was around the corner I decided to be spontaneous (which is not my best quality) and I asked them if they would like green eggs and ham for lunch.  Boy, did they ever!
So I made green eggs and ham for lunch (thanks to a bottle of green food coloring I had in the cupboard):

The girls let me know that the lunch wasn't quite right as the ham was also supposed to be green, but it was close enough to be pretty awesome.  I was excited to pick Lily up from preschool and let her know about the fun lunch we had waiting at home for her.  Lily was not as thrilled with the idea as her two other sisters and had a really hard time eating it.  She kept saying it tasted funny.  So Nana (who hadn't left yet) told her to close her eyes and imagine the eggs were yellow and it wouldn't taste funny.  Ta-da!  That did the trick and to this day Lily will tell you she likes green eggs and ham (if she closes her eyes, that is).

Man, that IS a great idea! I think I'll steal it! Levi was on a Dr. Suess kick & for awhile just loved that book, but then I had to return it to the library. Think I should look into investing in a Dr. Suess collection...
