Earlier in the summer I had an opportunity to visit Salt Lake City’s Hogle Zoo for a blogger event – and I got to bring the family! What a fun way to spend a Saturday.
We got to see lots and lots of animals.
Snakes…
Rhinoceros…
Polar bears (who were entertaining themselves the same way the polar bears at the Kansas City Zoo did, how funny!)…
Grizzly bears…
Giraffes…
Babies…
Little girls…
Tigers…
Elephants…
And even lots of plastic animals on the Merry Go Round.
The event itself was a kick-off to the Clean the Air Challenge, an effort to reduce emissions and improve Utah’s air quality during the month of August. As part of the festivities there was a coloring contest. Ava colored hers beforehand and entered it in the contest. And she won! Second place, a four pack of tickets to the Living Planet Aquarium (which we actually have a membership too, ha ha ha!)
The object was to color a picture answering the question “What does clean air mean to you?”. Since Ava is obsessed with dinosaurs she drew a picture of dinosaurs and answered the question with “dinosaurs would still be alive.” Creative, right?
I am so proud of her!
We had a great morning at the zoo. Afterwards we drove up the canyon a few miles and enjoyed lunch at Ruth’s Diner, a SLC landmark and a restaurant I have been wanting to visit for awhile. They are famous for their Mile High Biscuits – as they should be. Delicious! What a beautiful summer memory.
