Printing on Tissue Paper

I was THRILLED to learn how to print on tissue paper recently.  How, you say?  BEATS ME!

I came across the technique SOMEWHERE.  Where, I can't remember!  I have looked and looked (my bookmarked favorites, Google Reader, Pinterest) and I even Googled the topic and still couldn't find it.

So I will tell you how:

Cut a piece each of tissue paper and freezer paper 8.5" x 11".  (You should already have a roll of freezer paper running around for freezer paper stenciling. You don't? Run and buy some!)

Using dry heat, gently iron the tissue paper to shiny side of the freezer paper (to give it heft).  Freezer paper will temporarily adhere to the tissue paper due to the heat, but will peel off without leaving any residue.  Neat huh?

Now print on the tissue paper via your printer as you would a normal piece of paper.  When the ink has set gently peel off the tissue paper.  This will leave you with your printed tissue paper!

(Note: I tried to do this technique with a black a white photo project and I think it was just too much black ink on the tissue paper.  It wouldn't separate from the freezer paper without ripping, so keep that in mind.)

I decided to use this technique to make my own version of the cutest personalized canvas for a new baby I saw at a kitchen table for two.  My friend Holly recently had her first little one and I wanted to make something special for her.  The obvious was something to sew (since that's more my niche) but since I have a new baby too it just wasn't happening.  However this project struck a chord.

I created word art in Photoshop using baby's personal stats and then matched the colors to Holly's nursery decor.  I made the graphic an 8"x10" size so I could print off only one sheet of tissue rather than piecing multiple sheets together.

Once I printed and separated the tissue paper I used Modge Podge to attach it to an 8"x10" canvas from the craft store.  The brilliant part about using tissue paper on the canvas is that the project looks like a professionally-made canvas (which would cost alot more money) since the tissue paper allows the canvas to show through the white areas.

The result:

TA-DA!

Do you love it as much as me?

Not possible.

But most importantly, how does Juliet like it?

I think that is one satisfied customer.  Welcome to the world Juliet!

We lost the cord for our printer in the move and haven't been able to use it all these months. I really need to get my act together and see if I can buy a replacement. So many cute projets! Love this!!! Your gift turned out awesome!
